In Austria, the allocation of telephone numbers is strictly regulated. You are only considered an “authorised assignee” of a telephone number if you can provide a residential or business address within the relevant area code.

If you move house and wish to take your VoIP connection or telephone numbers with you, the crucial question is therefore which area code your new address falls under.

Two options:

1. The new address has the same area code

If your old and new addresses have the same area code, please send an email to support@easybell.at stating that you wish to move house and keep your VoIP telephone line.

2. The new address has a different area code

Although it is theoretically possible with Voice over IP to use a VoIP connection outside the area code, in Austria you are only permitted to use local numbers within the area code in which you have a residential or business address.

If you change your area code as a result of moving house, you are therefore obliged to notify Easybell of this and to cancel your line.

This legal requirement is important because, for example, emergency calls are automatically routed to the emergency services centre for the relevant area code. In emergencies, this could therefore lead to complications that are a matter of life and death.

You will then need to order a new line at your new address in order to be allocated numbers from the relevant area code. We would, of course, be delighted if you chose to sign up for an Easybell line again at your new address.
